Three months ago, I asked a troubling question: What is happening to real estate in Ontario as it relates to BG Wealth? Whispers of a scandal were spreading, warning of something sinister beneath the surface of this real estate investment company.

Now, thanks to the relentless investigative work of Miranda Miller of Owen Sound Current Newspaper and Darryl Frankfort of The Canadian Real Estate Show Podcast, those whispers have turned into undeniable truths. Investors are not only getting answers—they are finally seeing action.

The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) has imposed a temporary cease trade order on the company, a small but crucial step toward justice. But for the many victims—many of them elderly—the damage has already been done.

More than $11.6 million was poured into BG Wealth products, much of it the life savings of seniors who trusted this company with their financial security. Now, those savings are gone.

The company’s properties were auctioned off by the Owen Sound local government in late 2024 due to $286,000 in unpaid taxes, making it almost impossible for these investors to ever recover what they lost.

For some, there is at least a bitter sense of validation—their voices are finally being heard. But for many others, the loss is devastating. Retirement dreams have turned into nightmares. People who once felt secure are now staring down financial ruin. Food, housing, even basic survival—these are now daily struggles. The weight of betrayal is unbearable, as they grapple with the reality that they have been deceived, left to pick up the shattered pieces of their lives.

The owners of BG Wealth have much to answer for. This company must be held accountable for the pain and suffering it has caused

As the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) seeks an extension of the temporary cease trade order on BG Wealth Group and its affiliated entities, embattled CEO Craig Dunkerley has reached out to investors to assure them of his firm’s commitment to transparency and compliance.

According to the initial order, the OSC determined that complainants had invested at least $2.9 million in BG Wealth via promissory notes, and an estimated $8.7 million via the “Growth Fund.”
